The Northern Healthy Communities Partnership is pleased to release the results of its most recent evaluation of the Babies, Books and Bonding early literacy program.
The Babies, Books and Bonding program reached over 750 children in northern Saskatchewan in the 2015-16 year alone. The evaluation findings include a 23% overall increase in reading frequency in the home, an outcome which is associated with increased pre-school language scores and later academic achievement, literacy and health. For one quarter of respondents, Babies, Books and Bonding is their only source of literacy resources, suggesting the program addresses a critical need in northern Saskatchewan communities.
The Babies, Books and Bonding Action Team continues to work to strengthen the program to ensure it reaches all of the eligible northern Saskatchewan children and innovates in response to the needs and desires of our communities. The Babies, Books and Bonding Action Team would like to thank the NHCP Partner Organizations for their ongoing support of the program, without which it would not be possible.
